چکیده

We present a double distribution function of dark matter halos, with respect to both object mass and local over(or under-) density. This analytical tool provides a statistical treatment of the properties of matter surrounding collapsed objects, and can be used to study environmental effects on hierarchical structure formation. The size of the “local environment” of a collapsed object is defined to depend on the mass of the object. The Press-Schechter mass function is recovered by integration of our double distribution over the density contrast. We also present a detailed treatment of the evolution of overdensities and underdensities in Ωm+ΩΛ = 1 and Ωm = 1 universes according to the spherical evolution model. We explicitly distinguish between true and linearly extrapolated overdensities and provide conversion relations between the two quantities.

Environmental Influences on Dark Matter Halos and Consequences for the Galaxies Within Them

We use large N-body simulations of dissipationless gravitational clustering in cold dark matter (CDM) cosmologies to study whether the properties of dark matter halos are affected by their environment. We look for correlations between the masses, formation redshifts, concentrations, shapes and spins of halos and the overdensity of their local environment. We also look for correlations of these ...

An Analytic Model for the Spatial Clustering of Dark Matter Haloes

We develop a simple analytic model for the gravitational clustering of dark matter haloes to understand how their spatial distribution is biased relative to that of the mass. The statistical distribution of dark haloes within the initial density eld (assumed Gaussian) is determined by an extension of the Press-Schechter formalism. Modi cations of this distribution caused by gravitationally indu...

The Large Scale Bias of Dark Matter Halos: Numerical Calibration and Model Tests

We measure the clustering of dark matter halos in a large set of collisionless cosmological simulations of the flat ΛCDM cosmology. Halos are identified using the spherical overdensity algorithm, which finds the mass around isolated peaks in the density field such that the mean density is ∆ times the background. We calibrate fitting functions for the large scale bias that are adaptable to any v...

The Structure of Halos: Implications for Group and Cluster Cosmology

The dark matter halo mass function is a key repository of cosmological information over a wide range of mass scales, from individual galaxies to galaxy clusters. N-body simulations have established that the friends-of-friends (FOF) mass function has a universal form to a surprising level of accuracy (. 10%). The high-mass tail of the mass function is exponentially sensitive to the amplitude of ...

Are Galaxy Properties Only Determined by the Dark Matter Halo Mass?

Conditional luminosity function (CLF) of dark matter halos supersedes simple models on the number of galaxies as a function of the halo mass, or the so-called halo occupation number, by assigning a luminosity distribution to those galaxies. Suggestions have now been made that both the clustering strength and properties of hosted galaxies of a given dark matter halo depends also on the age and t...
